If you donât use Gmail as your mail service or need to use the same app across Mac and iOS, Mimestream isnât for you- yet. After a few years in open beta development, on Monday Mimestream 1.0 was officially released. After an appropriate period of mourning (which included using Apple Mail regularly for the first time in years), I was desperate for an email app that worked the way I wanted it to.Īnd the solution presented itself! Neil Jhaveri, who previously worked on the engineering team for Apple Mail itself, founded a company to build a new email app: Mimestream. After installing the certificate, Mail will automatically allow you to send encrypted email to this address.A couple of years ago, my favorite Mac email app-the Gmail web wrapper app Mailplane-was discontinued. Tap Done to finish installing the certificate.Note: Even though Mail previously indicated that the certificate was trusted, there still will be a Not Trusted message above the certificateâs expiration date in this step. Tap the senderâs email address, then tap again after the check mark turns blue.Ī screen should appear stating that âThe sender signed this message with a trusted certificate.â Tap View Encryption Certificate. A email message signed with a certificate issued by a trusted certificate authority (CA), such as SSL.com, will have a small seal with a check mark to the right of the senderâs address. The process begins when you receive a signed email from that person. In order to send encrypted S/MIME email to a specific email address, your recipientâs certificate with their public key must be installed on your device.Go to top Installing a Recipientâs Certificate and Public Key ![]()

![]() The White Out is the biggest event on campus every year (second biggest behind THON in terms of importance, but the biggest in terms of capturing a national audience). How do we decide which game makes the most sense to be this year’s White Out?įirst and foremost, the White Out should NOT be a game that is broadcasted on the Big Ten Network. Just because Penn State announces that the White Out will take place for a certain game, does not mean that whatever TV company has the rights to that game will put it in their primetime slot. While that’s not necessarily a bad idea, there are still some obstacles. That’s an atmosphere that packs a physical punch, a classic epitome of the White Out.With some rumors swirling that this year’s Penn State vs Ohio State game might not be a primetime game, many fans have tossed around the idea of deploying the White Out for a different opponent, to try to ensure that it takes place under the lights. That’s only 14 decibels short of when people start to feel pain in their ears. Penn State fans in 2014 registered 111 decibels during the White Out game against Ohio State. That’s an unrivaled intimidation factor, if you ask me. ![]() When you find out your team is playing Penn State in the White Out, you know you’d better be ready, because you know Penn State will be. Fans storm the field after Penn State upset No. It’s off-putting to an opponent, and it gets the job done. ![]() Year after year, players report rattling helmets, the ground shaking beneath their feet, and having to scream just to hear the teammate next to them. But a man with an appreciation for good football and a close game against a whited-out Penn State in 2014 can do strange things to the psyche. Called PSU “one of the top 5 atmospheres” in CFB.Ī renowned football coach doesn’t just say that against any team with a 4-2 record. ‘I wish they’d save the Whiteout for other games,’ OSU coach Urban Meyer said today. Perhaps the quote that best explains the power of a White Out came from Urban Meyer last year in anticipation of his team’s clash with the wall of sound and white. And while I hate the marketing scheme of making every game “themed,” I believe there are other options worth exploring that bring us together. It’s not like it’s the white that gets us going - in my opinion, the stripe out turns out pretty cool, too. It’s like the boy who cried wolf: The coach and student section who called White Out. It will lose its effect and people won’t know when to go all out. It’s the best atmosphere in college football.īy asking fans to wear white for every game, we are running the risk of destroying one of the core identities of modern-day Penn State football. It’s once a year– the entire stadium participates, and the game means something. One of the reasons the White Out “works” is because everyone gets so excited. If last year’s Ohio State game was away or a noon kickoff, could the Nittany Lions have come back? Does a four-overtime victory against Michigan and “ The Catch” even happen without a White Out game under the lights? Allen Robinson’s famous catch that rocked a 2013 white out crowd. White Out games have been among the most important in recent Penn State football history. Unofficially, however, the second unspoken rule (that I thought was obvious but apparently not) is that the white out must be held in Beaver Stadium. There’s really only one “rule” for the White Out game: You have to wear white. James Franklin got so excited about how well the White Out worked against Ohio State last season that he started encouraging fans to wear white to practically every game from then on. The first stadium-wide white out happened in 2007 and since then, Penn State has hosted (usually) one White Out game each season, typically the most important game of the year against the biggest opponent, often at night. The first-attempt at a student section “White Out” in 2004. Promoted primarily with guerilla marketing, the student section held the first white out in 2004 and the following year the first successful student section-wide White Out took place, resulting in a legendary win over Ohio State. Penn State football needed a boost in the early 2000s, and some smart marketing folks determined there would be more unity if everyone was wearing the same color. It’s also seen the creation of one of the most unique spectacles in college sports: the White Out.įeared among opponents and cherished by Penn Staters, the White Out game is an incredible tradition, but one we might lose if we keep staging these impromptu, pseudo-white outs. Trials and tribulations, joy and suffering, sanctions and Big Ten Championships. ![]() The last decade has held a lot for Penn Staters. ![]() However, Mei's life takes a unique turn when she discovers that she has the ability to transform into a giant red panda whenever she gets too excited or emotional. The variety of choices makes for a nicely non-linear progression, though - you can race straight to a particular challenge if you really want that reward, or gradually go through and unlock every item in sequence. The way the tree is arranged, it immediately expands into several different options, and then contracts down once you're further into the championship, making the final challenges more difficult to attack. Each challenge unlocks some kind of reward, like a new car or track for the other game modes, as well as another challenge or two on the tree. Both the competitive race and Hot Pursuit modes are focused on an array of 30 different challenges, arranged into an expanding and contracting tree. There are two basic game modes available - racing and chasing - split up into different sub-modes. On the other hand, this gameplay model was manifestly not broken, and the extra trappings around it make the sequel a worthwhile effort. There are more tracks, more challenges, improved graphics, and so on, but the game still handles in the same way. In fact, the biggest knock against this game you could come up with as far as its basic design is that it presents, more or less, the straight Hot Pursuit experience. The creators of Hot Pursuit 2 are having none of that, of course. In a larger sense, one could view it as the last hurrah for a long tradition of arcade racing, as it appeared at the very same time as Gran Turismo's rise to prominence, when simulation racing hit the mainstream with the news that driving a Honda Civic could in fact be an exciting experience. It's generally considered Need For Speed's high-water mark, as subsequent games diluted their focus in comparison. Hot Pursuit 2 is a sequel in spirit to Need For Speed III, three installments back, which was the first game in the series to make high-speed chases its central gameplay element. They are of course not simulated with Gran Turismo's exacting precision, but it's cool to simply be given the impression of driving the world's greatest sports cars. Even the McLaren F1 is in attendance, both the original and Le Mans editions. The Ferrari 550, 360, and F50 Porsche's 911, Boxster, and Carrera GT Lotus BMW Mercedes American representatives from Corvette and Ford Aston Martins. EA has to have shelled out a positively unearthly amount of money for the licenses in this game. If you like cars, you'll probably get a kick out of the simple fantasy factor in Hot Pursuit 2's car lineup. I pick up Emap's CAR magazine off the newsstand every month, I can dope out the difference between BMW 3-series with a little effort, and I'll happily share my opinion on the Subaru Impreza's headlights or the front-end design on the Enzo Ferrari (respectively, I like them, and I don't like it). Now, I like cars, as you can tell if you've read some of my other racing reviews. Skip down to the next heading if you want to read about the game, rather than watch the author wretchedly geek out. And you'll definitely want to play it on PS2, since this version has plenty of features that the competition lacks. Gran Turismo 3 remains the best-looking racer on PS2 by a substantial margin (a margin we're starting to doubt any game will be able to make up), but Need For Speed's engine drives it well enough that it can focus on what it does best: fast, competitive, exciting arcade racing. Hot Pursuit 2 is mightily impressive simply as a collection of exotic cars - never have this many sweet rides been packed into a single game. Attempting to elude the cops in a red Ferrari 550 Barchetta, top down, is pretty good as fantasies go. After all, attempting to elude the cops in your 1989 Honda Civic DX is not much of a fantasy. Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit 2 delivers that fantasy in unadulterated form, and several other fine fantasies besides. There’s a simple solution to this: get yourself a set of JIS screwdrivers. JIS screws get damaged if you apply torque to them with a Phillips head screwdriver. But many of the star-shaped screws we use today are not the Phillips screws that we’re used to. You may not even know that you’re using the wrong shape screwdriver for your screws because they look so similar. But if the shape of the screwdriver doesn’t match the screw, the screw head will strip if you apply pressure. It isn’t a problem if your screwdriver is a few millimeters larger or smaller than the screw. One of the most common reasons that screw heads get stripped in the west is using screwdrivers or drill bits that don’t fit correctly. If you're not sure whether you have the right screwdriver for the job, it's a good idea to first choose a screwdriver brand that suits your work, and go from there. You should always tighten your screws by hand with a properly fitting screwdriver. They spin too fast and start to cam out and damage the screw. They don’t provide enough torque at low speeds to get those final few turns in to tighten it. The hardened-steel screwdriver will damage the inside of your screw head if your angle is off.Īlso, many people don’t know that power drills aren’t suitable for driving screws. ![]() You should always align your screwdriver with the drive of the screw. There are a few reasons you might strip your screw heads and some simple ways to prevent it from happening. Let’s look at some of the more common cases.Ĭase 1: How to remove a broken screw with a stripped head. What can you do if your screw gets stuck? It depends on why the screw is stuck and what tools you have. A standard screwdriver is no longer usable when you strip the screw head. ![]() ![]() The screw’s threads could adhere to the hole and seize. There are many reasons a screw might get stuck. If you ’d like to learn how to remove a broken screw, then we’ve got you covered. And the unfortunate thing about screws is that they sometimes get stuck. Whether you’re a DIY hobbyist, a carpenter, a mechanic, or an engineer, we all use screws. ![]() This type of system functions similarly to RFID locks in that a mobile credential in a user’s personal device must be held in proximity to an access reader. Proximity-based or Radio Frequency Identification ( RFID) door lock commercial access control systems use key cards and fobs as a replacement for traditional keys. Some systems also offer smartphone integration, allowing codes to be entered on a virtual keypad. Keypad systems remove the need for traditional physical credentials by granting access to authorized users with PIN codes. This type of commercial door lock can also be easily integrated with existing security systems. Keyless commercial smart locks and touchless access control systems are popular among modern businesses, as they provide a more convenient and hygienic way to move throughout commercial properties. However, these systems require a constant power supply to remain locked, meaning if power is lost, all connected maglocks will disengage. Just like electric strike locks, magnetic lock mechanisms require an electronic signal to be sent to an internal motor for the door to be unlocked. Maglock systems consist of an electromagnet fixed to the door frame and a metal armature plate that holds the door shut with magnetic force. Magnetic commercial door locks are often viewed as an alternative to electric strike locks, with both mechanisms functioning in a similar fashion. As electric strike locks will stay locked until power is supplied, a backup generator will be required to ensure that the system remains functional during blackouts. This holds the door shut until an electronic signal is received.Įlectronic commercial door locks require credentials capable of sending an electronic signal to disengage the mechanism, meaning a keypad, proximity card, or other wireless sensors will also need to be installed. Electric strike locks are mechanical devices, although they also contain an electric motor used to manipulate an internal lock bolt. Electronic locks for commercial doorsĮlectronic commercial door locks, also known as electric strike locks, are a main component of modern access control systems and are typically installed to replace traditional door strikes. They also share many of the same characteristics, including a lack of integration and poor credential security. Just like mortise systems, cylindrical locks are mechanical devices that feature no electronic components and use traditional keys as a form of access credential. This means that cylindrical locks are typically easy to install. Rather than being installed into a fabricated section of the frame, these mechanisms will be inserted through a hole in the face of the door. Cylindrical door locksĬylindrical commercial door lock systems operate similarly to mortise locks. Additionally, this type of lock cannot be integrated into wider security systems. ![]() Mortise locks are inexpensive, easy to install and simple to operate, but they provide limited security benefits, as keys can be stolen or copied.
